It is official- Nashville has its very own Mahjong Room in The Gulch! This Spring, Music City Mahjong was invited to spend an evening at Choy’s Crane Room aka The Mahjong Room for drinks, light bites and tiles. What makes The Mahjong Room so special, you ask? Let me tell you…
The Mahjong Room Aesthetic
Tucked upstairs in Nashville’s latest upscale Chinese American restaurant you will find The Mahjong Room. The wallpaper is a bamboo and crane motif. I just wanted to say “Cheers to Birdie Bam!” every time I admired it. The bar is a nod to the 1920s sophistication, when American mahjong was first introduced. The little side tables? The pedestals are birds, of course. The room is spacious and can accommodate up to 36 players comfortably.

The Signature Cocktails
Choy has put together a list of signature cocktails and mocktails for The Mahjong Room. Some of my favorites? The Magic Dragon, with tequila, lime and toasted coconut. I need to focus when I teach lessons, so I sip the non-alcoholic After Party. This mocktail is made with a rum alternative, lime, green tea and mint.

The Food
I have tried several of Choy’s dishes, and I am always impressed. Whether it is pressed yellowtail or wontons, every bite is light and fresh. The presentation is impeccable at Choy. Every small bite is almost too beautiful to eat!

The Vibe
Everything about The Mahjong Room at Choy is upscale and modern with a twist of Chinese tradition. The music, the lighting, the décor- it is all woven together thoughtfully to create an elevated mahjong experience. After two hours of games, you can move downstairs to dine. Let me recommend my favorite item on the menu: beef chow fun noodles. I always complain Nashville is lacking good Asian food, but this dish proves me wrong!
Music City Mahjong has upcoming games scheduled at The Mahjong Room at Choy. I hope to see you there!
