As a resident of Nashville, I rarely travel south to Franklin. I live in a bubble and seem to stay in the Green Hills, 12South and Broadway areas. Franklin just sounds… far. A friend convinced me to head the 15 minutes south to Franklin to play mahjong at Interior Anthology's Emporium. I am so glad I did…
Pulling up to Interior Anthology, it is a departure from the strip malls of Brentwood and the Green Hills mall department stores. I walked up the stairs, under the awning and through the brick red door. Inside is the most charming home store, filled with home décor, gardening books and gifts.
As the acoustic music played in the background I took in the scene. With fall upon us, I perused the pheasant platters, the magnolia garlands and the Smithey cast iron cookware. The signature candles gave this store even more depth, infused with vanilla, tobacco and black oak.
I wasn’t stopping by Interior Anthology just to shop. On this evening, I was there to play mahjong and raise money for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. With two open play tables and one lesson table, we all sat down in this gorgeous shop to chat, exercise our brains and make connections.
It was a departure from the busy mahjong events that we normally host in Nashville. Escaping to Franklin to play mahjong in this serene, slow-paced environment was just what I needed. It may have been my first time to Franklin to play mahjong, but it certainly won’t be my last.
