Who we are
How Music City Mahjong
Social Club started

Missy Mahjong loved to play mahjong, but very few people played in Nashville. One night, she finally convinced some friends to take a lesson with her over a glass of wine at the mall. To her delight, her friends were quick learners and immediately captivated by the game.
"Same time next week?" was the question when the lesson was finished. The stage was set for Nashville’s first mahjong social club. The new players told their friends to come to the mall and learn to play. Once that new group of players learned, they told their friends and coworkers and family. Players that had learned elsewhere also started showing up to play, looking to join the Missy Mahjong group in Nashville. Within a few months, we grew into what we are today: hundreds of local mahjong players looking for the next tile game.
In Nashville, this group of mahjong enthusiasts have all come together to play a challenging game and make new friends at the table. Missy Mahjong's social club was created for players of all experience levels.
Beginner players can take an informal lesson with Missy Mahjong or one of her affiliated teachers at the events. These lessons are casual, so the players can really dive in and start playing within two hours. Missy and her teachers don’t charge for these lessons during these free events, they teach for the love of the game and to find more people to add to the mahjong community.
After one lesson, we encourage players to practice at home making sequences with a physical set or online. Then, the beginner players are ready to shadow and experienced player or sit at an open play table. The experienced players guide the newer players during open play. There is a seat for every type of player at a Missy Mahjong event in Music City.
Experienced players can come to help teach tips and tricks, guide tables, try new cards, play with the latest tile sets and tell mahj stories. The game is constantly evolving and there is always a new table rule to try.
At open play, friendships are made. All the players disconnect from phones and social media and connect in real life at the table. Everyone is focused, courteous and present.
Nashville is a growing and changing city. There is a foundation of Southern hospitality mixed with an adventurous spirit. Most women that join the Nashville Missy Mahjong group come alone or with one other friend to learn the first time. After that, everyone comes solo, but to meet up with their new mahjong friends.
There is something to be said about meeting new people of all different ages and backgrounds. We are a group of women that embrace individual personalities and game styles. Missy Mahjong's Nashville social club is its own, very special community. We hope to see you at the table soon!
